VoiceInk is a native macOS dictation app (Apple Silicon, macOS 14.4 or later). Speech is transcribed on-device with Parakeet, Whisper or Apple Speech models, so audio never leaves the Mac; optional AI enhancement through cloud or local LLM providers removes filler words, rewrites selected text or answers questions. Modes switch models, prompts and output per app. It is sold as a lifetime license from $25 for one Mac, and the source code is published on GitHub under GPL-3.0.

Pros

  • Local transcription with Parakeet, Whisper or Apple Speech; partial transcript appears while recording with streaming-capable models
  • Translated interface language can be selected separately from the transcription language
  • Lifetime license from $25 with free updates and a 14-day refund; source code is public on GitHub (GPL-3.0)
  • Per-app Modes, auto-learning dictionary, filler-word removal, audio-file transcription and searchable history

Cons

  • Apple Silicon only; requires macOS 14.4 or later
  • AI enhancement needs a cloud provider API key or a local LLM you set up yourself
  • No published language count; coverage depends on the selected model
